Half - life of the electron - capture decay of 97 Ru : Precision measurement shows no temperature dependence

چکیده
We have measured the half-life of the electron-capture (ec) decay of 97Ru in a metallic environment, both at low temperature (19 K), and also at room temperature. We find the half-lives at both temperatures to be the same within 0.1%. This demonstrates that a recent claim that the ec decay half-life for 7Be changes by 0.9% ± 0.2% under similar circumstances certainly cannot be generalized to other ec decays. Our results for the half-life of 97Ru, 2.8370(14) d at room temperature and 2.8382(14) d at 19 K, are consistent with, but much more precise than, previous room-temperature measurements. In addition, we have also measured the half-lives of the β−-emitters 103Ru and 105Rh at both temperatures, and found them also to be unchanged.

The half-life of Ru: a test for temperature dependence in electron-capture decay
This experiment was undertaken to investigate whether the half life of the electron capture decay of Ru in a metallic environment shows any temperature dependence, as has been claimed recently for the electron capture decay of Be [1]. Previous publications claiming to observe a temperature dependence of β-decay half-lives [1 3] in a metallic environment have used the so-called “Debye effect” to...
متن کاملDetermination of Isosorbide Dinitrate in Serum by Gas Chromatography with New Generation of Electron Capture Detector and its Application in Pharmacokinetic Study
Isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) is an effective drug in treatment of angina pectoris. In this study a new generation of electron capture detector (non-radioactive) with a short, non-polar and wide-bore column was used for analysis of ISDN in human serum. ISDN was extracted from serum by a mixture of ether and ethyl acetate and concentrated at room temperature. The method was linear between 5-50...
متن کاملMeasurement and comparison of the temperature-dependence of refractive index of water and Plexiglas phantoms by interferometry method for their use in optical calorimetry
In radiation calorimetry by using laser beams and interferometry setups, variations induced by dose absorption in phantom can be precisely measured. Dose absorption and the induced temperature change result in refractive index variation of the material. In order to be able to measure the low amount of absorbed dose in the phantom, temperature dependence of refractive index of the material must ...

This experiment was undertaken to investigate whether the half life of the β-decay of Au in a metallic environment showed any dependence on temperature as had been claimed in a recent publication [1]. An article describing this experiment has already been published [2]. Previous publications claiming to observe a temperature dependence of β-decay half-lives [1, 3, 4] have invoked the so-called ...
